DOUJA D'OR
Douja d'Or is a national, enological contest that takes place every year in the city of Asti. Douja is a piedmontese word that means old and rounded mug. This contest was born with the aim to let people know and appreciate good wines and teach them which to choose and appreciate. Each year the national contest is announced and here the best DOC and DOCG wines are awarded with the prestigious Douja d'Or prize. This contest lasts 10 days during the month of September between Le Sagre and Il Palio

The Palio is still run with ancient and original rules, first of all the bareback riding. The first document speaking about Palio is dated 1275 and in the past it was run in corso Alfieri they used to call it Strada Maestra (main street), but now in the last 50 years they do it in the main central square, the elegant Piazza Alfieri. This medieval race is preceded by a charming, elegant and coloured parade of many people with medieval dresses all along the central streets between people admiring and applauding them. Imagine a big country village in which 40 stands propose typical and gorgeous astesan food specialties combined with eccellent DOC and DOCG local wines: you'll have Festival delle Sagre, a big, crowded and tasty festival. Le Sagre is on the second Sunday of September in the big Campo del Palio square but on the night before it already opens with a night food kermesse. On Sunday morning all along Asti main streets there's always a parade with more than 3000 actors playing ancient country professions with original old tools.

TRUFFLE FAIR IN ALBA
The Truffle Fair was born and created in 1928 by Giacomo Morra, the king of the truffle who first thought to expose the truffles and propose them outside the walls of the province and giving the best truffle of the season as a precious present to celebrities like Winston Churchill, Marylin Monroe, Joe Di Maggio, Gerard Depardieu and so on until today. Nowadays big experts and judges evaluate best daily truffles and give them the proper sale price. People can wander around the city, tasting and buying not only the truffle but also many typical products of territory like Tonda e Gentile hazelnuts, honey, homemade pasta, tasty cheese and of course excellent wines. If you want to taste the truffle the best way is with some kind of not too savory food to let truffle excel and shine such as home made egg pasta called Tajarin, fried eggs or even typical piedmontese raw meat called Carne all'Albese with thin slices of tasty and fragrant truffle on top: delicious, you'll become addicted to!
